NEW GATEWAY TO THE BESÒS RIVERSIDE PARK

The project aims to create a new gateway to the Besòs riverside park, conceived as a space of connection between neighborhoods, the river, and the metropolitan scale. Today, the Besòs is one of the most important green corridors of the region, linking Barcelona with Santa Coloma, Sant Adrià and Montcada i Reixac. Within this framework, the passage is imagined as the “Gateway to Vallès”, strengthening the network of existing entrances and creating both urban and landscape continuity.

On a local level, the intervention addresses the longstanding separation of neighborhoods caused by the Ripoll river and major infrastructures. The goal is to transform this interstitial space into a place of reunion between the city and its riverside, where the passage not only connects urban fabrics but also generates a new civic space.

The proposal unfolds through three main gestures. First, a pedestrian bridge with a viewpoint, linking Rambla dels Països Catalans and Carrer Major across the river, opening perspectives towards the Serralada de Marina and the Ripoll riverbed. Second, a gentle topographic descent to the riverside, designed as a water square in rainy seasons and as a new access to the park. Finally, beneath the large urban pergola of the C-33, a civic and equipped space is envisioned, flexible enough to host community activities and changing facilities.

Altogether, the passage becomes an axis connecting neighborhoods and landscape, a metropolitan entrance and, simultaneously, a new centrality for Montcada i Reixac.
